Grand Union Canal, Harefield

The Brief

We were asked to remove trees around a section of the Grand Union Canal which was bordered tightly on both sides by two lakes. Access to one side of the canal was only possible by crossing the canal itself. All arisings were removed from site.

What practicality Brown did for the Client

  • We provided waterway equipment to access and clear the west side of the canal. This included a pontoon with spud-legs, crane & log-grab, hoppers in which to move material, a tug to manoeuvre equipment, plus a moving boat to carry passengers across the canal.
  • We provided a safety boat team of two qualified operatives equipped with water safety and rescue equipment in case of an emergency. This team also provided a working near water safety training session.
  • We used a 13T excavator and tree shears, plus chainsaw operatives to work alongside the waterway equipment and clear vegetation.

The Outcome

The vegetation was cleared safely and systematically in tandem with the waterway equipment and safety boat team. All involved also received valuable training on how to work with water safety teams.
