Leicester City Football Club – Tree Transplanting
The Brief
Our client purchased a former golf course where trees had been planted in linear fashion between the fairways.
The site needed to be remodelled to accommodate full-size football training pitches and associated buildings.
We worked closely with both the main contractor and ecology specialists to implement the client’s plan and ensure the successful relocation of suitable trees.
What We Did
- Suitable trees were identified and transplanted using multiple sizes of tree spade machinery to form the landscape’s new structural planting.
- Individual tree moving involved complete root ball translocation using a purpose-built, vehicle-mounted tree spade. Trees were moved individually from donor to receptor locations.
- Selected trees were lifted using our ‘Big John’ 1.6m tree spade fitted with flotation tyres to minimise ground compaction, and a 1.1m loader-mounted Optimal Tree Spade, working in tandem to create a natural mix of tree sizes and species.
- Trees were relocated to receptor sites and planted in pre-excavated pits.
- Larger trees were supported using overhead Platipus guying systems, and an after-care package was implemented to ensure establishment.
The Outcome
A total of 711 trees were successfully transplanted during January and February, ensuring the development could proceed while preserving mature landscaping and biodiversity.
